Walmer Primary School is one of only two primary schools in the entire township. The school holds about 750 students from grades 1 through 7 who are typically between the ages of 6-14 years. The average ratio between teacher to student is 1:50.
Despite a strong need, the school does not provide special education for those with learning disabilities. Started in August 2012, the Homework Guidance Club meets everyday to help children with their homework and provide further instruction in English and Math, and engage the group of students with discussions about teen pregnancy, HIV/Aids, self image, dealing with bullying, personal hygiene and many other topics.
As a volunteer, YOU will be assisting with the Homework Guidance Club. YOU are only capable of being a teacher’s assistant in the school if you are currently studying to become a teacher, or is already a certified teacher.
