At many crèches in Walmer Township, the interlanguage is Xhosa. The teacher at most crèches do not teach the children basic English, as they do not know how. Therefore most children lack efficient English when they go to Primary School, which causes problems during the rest of their school and future life. Therefore, Izizwe Projects has recently started to provide basic English classes at crèches in Walmer Township. The volunteers teach the children basic English words that belong to a certain themes, such as animals or colours. By combining the words with songs, dances and art, the children learn basic English words in a fun way and are well prepared for their English courses at primary school.
